The real craftsmanship – a detailed explanation of the production process of rattan furniture (reproduced)
Rattan furniture is generally elegant in color, smooth and cool, light and flexible. Simple and individual,
Do you know how rattan furniture is made? Let’s take a look at it with you today.
Rattan furniture process
The craftsmanship of rattan furniture can be divided into two categories:
One is the production process of pure rattan furniture;
One is the production process of rattan furniture mixed with rattan and wood.
The production process of rattan furniture can be divided into eight links:
Raw material selection, raw material grinding, raw material processing (bending, gun mouth, polishing), assembly, weaving, semi-finished product grinding, oil injection.
Raw material selection
First: [Choice of vines] There are many kinds of vines, and there are 600 known species, among which agate vine, Liteng, red vine, sand vine, and Bataan vine are the most commonly used. The agate rattan cane is thick, even and full, the color is uniform without spots, and the moth-eaten is less.
Second: [Choice of wood] Little rattan furniture is the rich and handsome in the choice of wood: ash! Origin: North America.
Height: The height of the finished tree reaches 40m, and the maximum diameter is about 1.5m
Rich: Ash wood is a kind of wood commonly used in medium and high-end furniture because of its long maturity period and thick wood texture.
Handsome: The cut surface is smooth, the wood texture is clear and natural, and the finished solid wood texture of the furniture is super strong.
Features: smooth cut surface, clear and natural wood texture; good paint and adhesive properties. Suitable for dry climates with minimal aging and little change in performance. Is the wood commonly used in high-end solid wood furniture
The first step is to open the rattan material
Choose the best agate rattan, and then cut the rattan according to the different sizes of each product, and cut the rattan into the desired length and width!
Raw material grinding
The surface of rattan is relatively rough and is a thorny plant, so when making it, the raw materials should be “polished”. Generally, a grinding machine is used, which is a tool specially used for grinding the raw materials of rattan, mainly using abrasive belts and grinding wheels. Grinding is done in two steps, one for rough grinding and one for fine grinding.
first step rough grinding
For rough grinding, use a type 80 coarse sanding belt; place the rattan between the sanding belt and the grinding wheel of the grinding machine, and apply a little force to make the surface of the rattan basically smooth.
The second step is fine grinding
After the first round of grinding, the surface of the rattan has been much smoother, but it is still slightly rough. At this time, a second round of fine grinding is required. Next, sand again with this 180 fine abrasive belt. Type 180 belts are thinner than type 80 belts, so the vine will be smoother.
The polished material should be cooked, and the cooked rattan material is more resistant to insects and mildew.
Raw material processing
Common tools when making rattan chairs: guns, high-pressure air cooling guns, consoles. The setting of the operating table is relatively simple, but it has many uses. It is the main tool for bending the rattan-the process of bending the rattan is all done on this operating table.
It needs to go through several links such as bending, gun mouth, polishing and so on.
bending:
There are three links when bending, they are heating, bending and cooling.
Use the outer flame of the gun (the inner flame will burn the rattan) to heat the rattan. When heating at high temperature, move the gun continuously to heat the part of the rattan that needs to be bent evenly. When heated to a certain extent, take advantage of the heat. Put the rattan on the operating table, and apply force while heating to bend and deform it to the required degree, then stop heating, and use a high-pressure air cooling gun to cool the rattan to make it shape.
If there is excessive bending, the rattan can be reheated and bent back to a suitable angle.
Gun mouth:
The gun mouth is to make a groove at 1 cm at each end of the cut rattan. The function of the groove is for the assembly of the rattan chair. When the rattan is used for the gun mouth, the force should not be too strong, so as not to damage the length of the rattan. Then use a serrated grinding tool to grind the edge of the gun mouth. The purpose of grinding is to remove the burrs on the edge of the gun mouth and make the edge smoother.
Polished:
Before assembling the rocker pedals, we first need to polish the finished pedal parts and pedal support rods.
The main tool used in polishing is the polishing machine. Its function is slightly different from that of the grinding process. Although both of them make the surface of the object smooth, the polishing mainly uses the grinding wheel to locally process the processed parts.
The focus of polishing is still the scars on the rattan, followed by these slightly carbonized surfaces that have just been heated at high temperatures. When polishing, the force should be even, and the action should be gentle and meticulous. (For the part that needs to be polished) There must be no omission, and the force must not be too large. If the force is too large, it may cause the grinding wheel to grind off more places, resulting in unnecessary loss of polished parts.
Note that polishing is done after each part is machined.
Assembly
Our assembly in this part is mainly to assemble the parts that have been done before.
The pergola and wooden frame are assembled into semi-finished products! become a main frame.
The tools required for assembly are: electric drill, pneumatic screwdriver, drill bit, and screws.
First mark the positions to be punched, then use an electric drill to punch holes at these marks, punch two holes at each point, and then fix them with the same type of screws.
When drilling, pay attention that the angle of the drill bit and the support rod is vertical, and must not be misaligned.
Weaving
On the basic frame of the produced rattan furniture, according to the designed plan, after processing the raw materials, hand weaving is carried out to decorate the surface of the furniture.
Six, semi-finished product grinding
The woven furniture is still only a semi-finished product, and polishing the surface of the furniture again is not the last step.
Seven, drying treatment
The cooked rattan should be dried in the drying room to prevent the natural rattan furniture from becoming moldy.
Eight, oil
After all the steps are in place, it is oiling. After repeated 3 times of oil grinding process, the rattan furniture after oiling has been processed by the previous process, and the surface is smooth and durable.
